Blake's Blog

Bernard Blake, an honor student, and one of the leaders of the Bear's 2009 District Championships (first 5A District Championship in Bastrop's storied history) is entering his Freshmen year at Colorado State University. As a proud graduate of Bastrop High School, he has agreed to share with us his experiences as he takes on the challenge of Student-Athlete.

Training camp is officially over and we are in game mode practicing. The prep for Colorado has began. It shall be a game to see. Thomas Coffman and I will use our medical redshirts as we have been sidelined for weeks with knee injuries. School has started and I am taking 14 credit hours. I have one core class, US History, which will be ok. Good luck to the Bastrop Bears tonight against McNeil. Start this thing off right. I will be listening. New motto.."Continue the Tradition."

8/21/2010

"Training camp is just about over, but the prep for CU is still here. We have 2 weeks to put in work before we march into Invesco Field to take on the Buffs in front of thousands of people. Injury wise I did not have to have surgery and I am well off into my rehab. We are looking to get me back this season to help contribute. Thomas Coffman had his surgery on Thursday and found out that he also tore his meniscus, but his surgery went well. In a team meeting on Thursday night we got a chance to see our 4 new uniforms. Jersey colors are White, Green, Gold, and Orange. I want to say good luck to my Bastrop Bears as their season is about to take place, keep your head up and play every rep like it is your last. Go Bears. Go Rams."

8/13/2010

This week we padded up in training camp and boy was it physical. The intensity on both sides of the ball keep practices interesting. Wednesday we kinda had a break, it was our media day and the releasing of our new uniforms. We scrimmage Saturday which is open to the fans and is Meet The Rams day. Personally I will be sidelined for a week or so as I went down in Thursday's AM practice, and suffered from a fracture in my lower knee. I am set to meet with the knee specialist either Sunday or Monday to see how long I will be out for sure. Former Austin High reciever Thomas Coffman will redshirt and undergo surgery Tuesday. He tore his MCL and shattered his knee. All these injuries occured the same day as mine. The doctor has yet to give us an official answer on whether or not I will have surgery, but the coaching staff has said that more than likely I will undergo surgery as well.

8/6/2010

"Wrapping up the first week of training camp. They are throwing a lot at us, but all in all we are sucking it in pretty well. Personally I'm doing well, I had a few good jams and a key interception on the first day. I have seen reps on both second team and third team, the interception came on second team against true freshman quarterback, Pete Thomas. Thomas Coffman, the receiver from Austin High, is doing well also. He made a few dbs look bad, not me. As a team we look to be on a great rise this season. If you havent done so already and you have direct tv channel 616 is called "The Mountain". It is specifically for the Mountain West Conference and will be airing the majority of our games. On the academic side I finished up class on Monday with a 92.2 average which is a very high B. Grades, Grades, Grades. "

7/30/2010

Just wrapped up a 3 week long s & c camp. I passed my conditioning test of 16 110's in 15 secs, just like in Bastrop. I have a week off before we jump into training camp. It's time to up my work and show everyone why Colo St. offered me a full ride. There has been talks of people/staff telling some of the basketball players that I will see the field a lot this upcoming season. Rumor or not I'm going to put in everything I got, so when Sept. 4th hits, and we march into Invesco Field @ Mile HIgh to play Colorado University; Bernard Blake will be ready to help his team walkout with that first W of the year! Stay tuned!!
